I read a lot of books. They tend to be of the romantic variety. A few years ago, there were barely any books about vampires. Now, it seems like every second book has some vampirical element. It's madness, I tell you, madness. There are a few series of books about vampires that I enjoy but for every series I enjoy, there are at least ten more I have no desire to read. It seems like each series also has its own vampire mythology. Mixing of series will end up in mind-bottling circumstances (I read a series where slayers were bad/ Vamps were good and then I watched Buffy the Vampire Slayer soon after -- DID NOT COMPUTE*) I will admit that recently I bought "Twilight" to see what the hype was about. I haven't actually read more than a few pages in it yet, we'll see. I was going to just borrow it from the library, but I was 423rd on the waiting list and that just seemed absurd. I think I might just watch the movie and be done with it. I also tried getting into the Sookie Stackhouse series. I ended up renting the TV series instead ("True Blood") which has been quite enjoyable so far. I am on episode 7 now. I am hoping to actually get into the books soon, although it may be after I have watched all of season one (apparently season one encompasses most of the first book). So anyway, today's favourite thing is certain TV/ book series about vampires.

* I should also mention that I watched "Buffy" and "Angel" while I was watching "Bones" and it was really hard for me to separate David Boreanaz's characters of ANGEL and BOOTH in the two shows. Over the course of a couple episodes of "Bones", BOOTH a) refused to break down a door because it would hurt his shoulder (ANGEL always seemed to enter a room by breaking down a door) and b) got quite seriously shot - to the point where people believed it when he faked his own death (I was convinced that his vampirical healing powers would save him.....they may as well have --he was out and about in the next episode which was only set a couple weeks later)

So, I guess I've been doing this blog for six months. It really doesn't seem like I've been doing it for that long. I don't have anything exciting to report for my 6 month anniversary. Same old, same old. Now, for the actual subject of today's post.

So, earlier this week, it was announced that a new Buffy movie was in the works without its creator, Joss Whedon. There was a total and complete rebellion on the part of loyal Whedonites. They took to the internets like the world was about to end. It was rather amazing actually. While I am not exactly thrilled about this development, it did stir an interest in watching the TV show again.

Yesterday, I started watching Season 1 and so far I have watched the first four episodes. While the episodes weren't perfect, they were quite enjoyable and enjoyed watching them again. We'll see how far I get -I may not make it past season 5 but for now it's a way to pass the time over the summer, while my shows are in reruns. I am not sure if I'll get to rewatching "Angel" but Buffy will do for now. Anyway, today's favourite thing is the TV show "Buffy the Vampire Slayer". That's quite the turn around considering I have seen maybe one episode in my life before March last year.

Oh, awesome!

Pretty much everyday, when I first go on the internet, I flip through all of my homepage tabs and see what's happening. When I got to my blog and looked at my blogroll (the place on the left hand side of my blog entitled "Blogs I Enjoy"), I got very excited. One of the blogs I follow called The Park Bench had chosen January's Nerd Man of the Month. Not only that, but this month's awesome Nerdy man was Jim Parsons. For those that don't know, Jim Parsons plays the neurotic, humorously socially bewildered theoretical physicist, Sheldon Cooper, on the Big Bang Theory (a show that routinely cracks me up). Sheldon pretty much exemplifies the definition of "nerd" so it was only a matter of time before he (or the actor that plays him)became the Nerd Man of the Month. Past Nerdy men include John Krasinski (Jim Halpert, Awesome!), Neil Patrick Harris (Do I need to explain who he is?), Adam Baldwin (Firefly, Angel, Chuck), Nathan Fillion (Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog, Firefly, Waitress), James Gunn (SLiTHER), and Joss Whedon, among others.

I hope everyone had a good 2008. I should totally be asleep right now as I am leaving for the airport at 4:30AM but I decided to do this before I actually go to sleep. For today's post, I am going to write about some of my favourite things of 2008. Some of them have or will have their own posts but for now it's just a list. In no particular order,...

• Panera Bread (American restaurant, really good sandwiches and soup. One of the things I miss most about Boston)
• Joss Whedon TV shows (I discovered Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, and Firefly this year. Also, Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog was awesome)
• The Sims 2 (for PC)
• Television Without Pity (Snarky recaps of your favourite shows, what more could you want?)
• Tina Fey as Sarah Palin
• Neil Patrick Harris
• I discovered some new and amusing websites this year. See my blog roll. I also enjoy www.tvtropes.org
• Twitter (I don't use it often but I like reading what other people are saying)
• Hulu (although I can't use it in Canada)
• Flamenco (That's not a new favourite, but I saw some amazing flamenco performances in '08)
• Living with my sister (It's been an adventure, especially with her doing a new thing everyday. It kept me on my toes)
• Using acronyms for phrases even if it's shorter to say the actual phrase (ex. btw for "by the way")
• Quoting random TV quotes in casual conversation (It's a sickness)
• Having an actual TV and using a DVR to record certain shows. (Awesomeness)
• TV Shows that are online (How I caught up on TV when I didn't have one)
• TV on DVD

I probably have a few more favourites but I am getting tired. I hope everyone has a great 2009!

What the heck kind of channel is this?

With our digital cable, we get the channel JoyTV. It broadcasts the weirdest assortment of shows that I have ever seen. In the morning, it has shows like Jewish Voices, Sikh Versa, Diya (a Hindu program), some Christian shows and some other decidedly faith-based programming. However, it also has shows such as The Simpsons, Supernatural, Lois and Clark, Smallville and Fresh Prince of Belair. My personal favourite, and the reason I found the station to begin with, is Angel. (Seriously, a show about a Vampire on a religious network? I guess he is looking for redemption, but still...) I love the randomness of the programming, although I am sure the shows have a common theme. I just haven't found it yet.
