Oh what a beautiful morning..

I worked another overnight shift last night; so while everywhere else in the world it's Sunday (except in the odd places where it's Monday), in my head it's still Saturday. I enjoy doing overnight shifts occasionally - although occasionally is now turning into every weekend. They give me a chance to see morning. I enjoy seeing the morning hours - especially when I don't actually have to wake up for them. I love the air and the stillness. I cannot actually get myself to actually wake up to enjoy those first few hours of the day, but when I am awake anyway, they are quite enjoyable. So today's favourite thing is the early morning without actually having to wake up early.

Moving right along....

My sister left to go to Europe on Saturday. I have had the car all to myself for the past few days. I am quite thankful for that because I don't know if I would have made it on time for work today if I would have had to take the bus. After doing an overnight shift on Saturday night and then sleeping til four yesterday afternoon, I was so not able to get to bed when I should have to be awake in time to take my time before going to work. I started work at 2pm today, which isn't such a big deal but I still really wanted to sleep. So I was glad that having the car gave be twenty extra minutes I wouldn't have had if I would have taken the bus. So today's favourite thing is having a car to drive to work.

Not that I ever work exceptionally hard....

Last night I had an overnight shift. I got home after 7am and slept til four. I had actually planned to wake up at one just so that I might actually have some semblance of a regular sleeping pattern for the rest of the week. That didn't happen. When I did wake up, I spent much of my time on the couch watching a few episodes of Buffy or reading. I did phone my sister in Saskatchewan and talked to my niece as well. I got to listen to "Jillian Jiggs" along with Bella so that was cool. I only really left the couch for about an hour and a half to go to mass. After mass, I plopped down on the couch and read until the automatic lamp in the living room went out. I enjoy Sundays where I can just sit and relax. Hopefully I will get more stuff done the rest of the week, but it was nice for today. So today's favourite thing is Lazy Sundays.

Somedays you take what you get...

I didn't have a super great day today. Work annoyed me and well, that's all I really remember about it because that's pretty much where I was for most of my waking hours. I do remember having a very good sleep last night though, so that's something to be happy about. Unfortunately, the sleep was so good I didn't want to get up so I kind of slept in which gave me less than the usual amount of time before I had to leave for work. It worked out though and now it's time for me to sleep again. Hopefully it's another good sleep.

Yaawwwwnnnn!

As I have previously mentioned, I actually (finally) got a job. My first two shifts were yesterday and today starting at 8am. This meant that I had to be up not long after 6am. That was, sadly, 6 hours earlier than I had been waking up for the last little while. Because my sleeping pattern wasn't suitable for waking up that early, I have been really tired the past few days. Both last night and tonight I have been dozing in front of the TV. Tonight, I was watching my normal reruns of shows on this one channel called Omni. It has Family Guy, Friends, Two and a Half Men and the Simpsons in a block from 6 - 8. I was able to keep away for Friends and Two and a Half Men but couldn't keep awake during the Simpsons. I was awake enough to know what episode it was but other than that it slipped right past me. My dozing didn't last long though because at 8 the Italian news came on and for some reason I am able to filter out English while foreign languages wake me up. That little bit of a nap got me through "Dollhouse" but left me tired enough that I may actually be able to get to sleep at a decent hour tonight (as in before midnight). So today's favourite things are booster naps that get you through what you need to get through but leave you tired enough that you can actually sleep at the appropriate time.

The early worm....gets the worm? That doesn't seem right.

The past few months really, because I have really no absolutely pressing matters I have to attend to first thing in the morning, I have been sleeping in until noon (sometimes later, sadly). Today, miracle of miracles, I was awake and upstairs by 8:30. Impressive, especially for a Saturday. The best thing to come from it was that I completely threw my sister off. She wasn't expecting me for another 3-4 hours. The worst thing to come from it was that she roped me into helping her defrost the freezer (which actually wasn't that bad as it was amusing to watch her try to reach the bottom of the freezer). Me getting up early also meant that we were able to begin doing our Saturday errands 2-4 hours earlier than we had been doing them. This meant that we had a pretty uneventful afternoon of watching some TV and reading. So all together not a bad day aside from me being really tired as I write this. So today's favourite thing is waking up in the morning.

"I'm not asleep... but that doesn't mean I'm awake"

Today was a travel day for me. I came back to Ottawa after spending Christmas and New Year's Eve with my family in Saskatchewan. Because the traveling time was shorter, we decided to take the flight that left at 7AM. This meant that we had to get to the airport at least an hour in advance. We got there two hours in advance because our airline called us to tell us to get there a bit early due to higher traffic and they didn't want us to miss our flight because of delays at security. So this meant that we had to leave for the airport at 4:30AM. After New Year's Eve. I suppose I could have went to bed before midnight but I probably wouldn't have gotten to sleep right away anyway. Occasionally, I don't get to bed til around 4 anyway so I was considering just staying up all night, but I decided that that is usually an option when you can actually sleep in the next morning and I hate sleeping on planes. So I decided to go to bed, but I should have made that decision about 2 hours before I actually got there because I went to sleep at 2:30. I had to be up at four. Needless to say I was basically a zombie all morning. I got some sleep in the (what felt like hours) we were on the plane before takeoff on the flight from Winnipeg but other than that not a whole lot of sleep was had. So this afternoon, after I ate and showered, I had a much needed 3 hour nap this afternoon/ evening. I definitely feel better but could still use about three years more. I am hoping that I can still get some sleep tonight. I think that I do enjoy spending 5 hours travelling as opposed to 10 even if I have to wake up at Why-the-Heck-am-I-awake? o'clock but next time I will attempt to get more sleep before hand.
