Happy New Year!!!

Wow, it's been quite awhile since I've even attempted to write anything in this blog. Let's see if this time around goes any better.

Being that it's January 1st, New Year's Resolutions are going to be my focus. In this post, I will discuss what resolutions I've made. In subsequent posts, I hope to discuss any progress I've made with them. I won't have the resolution updates more than once a week, but I may post about other things in between.

Now for the resolutions.....

  1. My first resolution is to update this blog at least once a week. I figure I should put that in writing. It's an easy resolution to keep track of and potentially easier to do than updating everyday.
  2. Getting a new job. This has actually been my goal for awhile but hopefully by Dec. 31, 2011, I will in fact have a new job. I don't just want another fast food or retail job though. Every week, I will try to post about the job hunting progress I have made so far.
  3. Cleaning my room and keeping it clean. Bwahahahahaha. This should be interesting. I hope to at least be able to see 85% of my floor at all times. Hopefully with this in writing, I will have the motivation to keep cleaning and maintaining the cleanliness. First step, unpacking from Christmas.
  4. Lose some weight. I am putting this here without an actual number because I know how hard it is. I mostly want to lose some weight and keep it off. I am not going to post how much I weigh here but I am keeping track of it.
  5. Related to the previous resolution, I want to go to the gym at least twice a week. Especially in the last two months, I have been really bad about going to the gym. Ideally I want to go to the gym up to three times a week but some weeks that doesn't work out.
  6. Go through my clothes and books, and donate the ones I no longer need. I started going through my clothes in July and, not only did I not finish that part of it, they are still sitting where I left them. I just started going through my books before Christmas. I just have to donate those now.
  7. Swear less. Even two years ago, this would not have been an issue. I just need to be aware of the language and words that I use.
  8. Practice dance everyday. Oy. Considering I only tend to practice when I have a show to prepare for, this should be interesting. But I think get back to the basics should really help me improve.
I think that's a good start. Some of them may take more work than other but I think I can do it. I probably should have one there about watching less TV or being on the internet less but that might be a result of some of the other resolutions. Hopefully.

Fingers crossed. Here's to a great 2011!!!

Somehow, I think they frown on this but....

Today, I went to a bookstore and ended up reading an entire book in one sitting. I hadn't intended to read the entire thing, especially since I wasn't planning to buy it, but I read one page and then another and then another and all of a sudden, it was three hours later and there were no more pages to turn. I want to actually buy the book at some point but it's only out in hardcover right now and I can't really justify the price of the book even to my own book-junky self. It also helped me assuage my curiousity of what happens next in the series since I was #187 on the holds list at the library and quite impatient. So now my curiousity is assuage but I feel quite guilty about not buying the book since I had read it anyway. Anyway, today's favourite thing is getting lost in a good book.

What the heck was I going to write about?

I am pretty sure that before I went to work I knew exactly what my post for today was going to be about. Now that I am home again, I have absolutely no idea what it was. It wasn't a hugely eventful day for me. I pretty much slept, read, and various other non-extraordinary things. What I did read was quite enjoyable though. Since before I even started watching the series "True Blood", I've been trying to get into the books they're based on. I started reading the first one before I watched the season and finished it well after. I think part of my problem may have been trying to read/watch them both at the same time because while the series is based on the books, not everything is exactly the same so it was hard to separate the two. I have since read the second and am starting the third. Once I got into the books, they have been quite enjoyable. Provided, of course, that you like reading about vampire-type creatures. So anyway, unless an unlikely event occurs where I remember my intended topic for this post, today's favourite things is the Sookie Stackhouse mystery series by Charlaine Harris.

Book worm

I love to read. I don't tend to read anything that's especially deep. It's ususally just a nice way to pass the time. There are a few specific authors I go back to again and again, especially if they have a series of connected books I am especially into. About a year and a half ago, I got into one particular series thanks to one of my sisters and I get so excited when a new book for it comes out. I bought the latest one in the series a couple days ago and finished it this morning. It was quite satisfying and yet on some levels I was thinking "What just happened?" Hopefully the next one comes out sooner rather than later. I am really interested to see what happens next. So today's favourite thing is the enjoyment of the latest book in a series.

Spoiler alert....

I tend to get overly excited about stuff, nearly to the point of obsession. When I am first introduced to something that I really like, I have to find out everything I possibly can about it. The length of this phase of my relationship with it varies and eventually a) I find out everything there is to know about it, b) I lose interest or c) a causes b. Part of the whole information gathering expedition, particularly for books or television, is looking at spoilers. I have to find out what happens next. One week between episode is too long. Especially if I have the option of finding out sooner. Invariably, the show is kinda ruined because I saw some stuff beforehand and I know I really show stay away from looking at the scoop, but I can't help myself. Because of this information obsession, I actually know great places to get scoop, especially for TV. My two favourite places for TV spoilers are Ask Ausiello and Watch with Kristin. Anyway, today's favourite things are spoilers (I love them and hate them in equal measure).
