When I was 26, I attempted to write about something I liked everyday. That didn't exactly work out. I am going to try something a bit different this time.

Walking
I actually prefer walking at night. It's less hectic and depending on where you are, it can be very peaceful. It is especially nice if you aren't in a hurry. I don't tend to go for many night walks if I am not going to or from the bus because I don't usually like to leave the house once I get home for the night.

Reconnecting...

It tastes better because I did none of the work.
Not a lot going on...
Here's a clip from the first episode ever:
The show has a good mixture of language based humour and snarkiness that is a combination I really like. Plus, it is filmed in and about Saskatchewan so I am really able to relate to it.

So even though I didn't get my second break today, my favourite thing today is getting a break at all.

Maybe my judgement bar is pretty low, but I am impressed....
I also really liked the doctor that saw me. He seemed very proactive regarding my health issues and referred me to the appropriate specialists without me even having to point the way. He even made arrangements for me to get a physical - which I tend not do unless I have to. I have been to doctors in the past where they just "treated" the condition I presented them with - some of them doing it from across the room. When I sprained my ankle, I had my ankle wrapped up in a tensor and the doctor didn't even take the tensor off when he was looking at it. Anyway, I was really impressed with the doctor I had today.
Anyway, today's favourite thing is doctors that take an active interest in your ongoing health.

Same topic, different post
Before Christmas, I wrote a post about the TV show "Chuck." It is one of my favourite shows and it is rising in the ranks I will probably soon be my absolute favourite show (provided it gets a third season, which is not done deal quite yet). Since I've already had a post naming "Chuck" as my favourite thing, I feel like I would be somewhat cheating to do it again. Instead, tonight's post is going to focus on why I like it and why I think more people should watch it. Here are some of the reasons why I love Chuck:
- It's funny
- It's suspenseful
- It's an action show
- It's romantic
- It's goofy
- It has Adam Baldwin (better known as Jayne from Firefly) and he's pretty awesome
- It has a character whose nickname actually is "Captain Awesome"
- It blends humour and emotion very well
- It has creepy yet hilarious characters
- It pays homage to so many different shows that it's a matter of trying to pick them out.
- This clip
Here's a crash course in all things "Chuck".
All in all, I will be very disappointed if Chuck doesn't get another season. It's a pretty awesome show with awesome characters and a character named "Awesome" which is pretty....cool. My lecture about Chuck is now done, but please check it out.

I have no idea why it's called this...
Today for Easter dinner, I made Monkey Bread. It was good but I think I added too much whole wheat flour. It was rather dry. Basically, Monkey Bread is a type of bread that you pull apart. It ends up being an interesting shape because of all the little pieces that you squish together to be able to pull it apart. I normally use an Angel Food cake pan to make it. I don't know where the recipe came from originally but I used the recipe my mom added as part of the cookbook she made for all her kids. The recipe is as follows:
- 1 tsp. sugar
- 1/2 cup lukewarm water
- 1 pkg yeast (1 tbsp.)
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup unsalted butter *
- 1/4 cup sugar**
- 1 1/2 tsp salt
- 3 eggs, beaten
- 5 1/2 cups all purpose flour (approximately)***
* You'll notice that sugar is on there twice, but it's for two different parts of the recipe.
** I used salted butter and it turned out okay.
*** I tend to substitute to put in at least one cup of whole wheat flour in the place of one of the cups of all purpose flour.
- In a large bowl, dissolve I tsp. sugar in water, sprinkle yeast over and let stand for 10 minutes or until frothy. Meanwhile, heat milk with 1/2 cup butter, stirring until melted; cool until lukewarm.
- To dissolved yeast, add cooled mixture, 1/4 cup sugar, salt and eggs. Stir in 3 cups flour, beat well. Gradually add enough remaining flour to make a soft dough. Knead on floured surface until smooth and elastic, about 10 minutes. Place in large greased bowl, turning to grease all over. Cover and let rise in a warm place until double, 1 to 1 1/2 hours.
- Punch down dough and roll out to about 1/2 inch thickness. Cut in 2 inch squares. Melt remaining 1/2 cup butter; cool to lukewarm. Dip squares of dough in butter (letting excess dip off) and arrange in layers in buttered 10-inch tube pan (pan should be half full). Cover an let rise until doubled (about 1 hour).
- Bake in 375 degree oven for 45 minutes or until bread sounds hollow when tapped on bottom. If bread starts to brown too much, cover loosely with foil. Turn out on rack and let cool at least twenty minutes before serving. Makes about 50 pull apart rolls. Use pan with not removable bottom so butter doesn't leak out.
Note: Don't pour excess butter over top when you are done dipping the dough unless you don't care if the bread falls apart after removing it from the pan.

It pays the bills...
I am making progress with learning the job and I think I am getting quite good at it. I still have some things to learn but I know I am improving. But what is keeping me going is the fact that I am actually making money, not just spending it. Today was the first payday and while it wasn't a ginormous amount of money (and realistically, it wouldn't be) it still helped relieve the stress of my previously very broke life. Seriously, I had like $6 in the bank. Now I just hope that I remember to buy some sort of support to put in my shoes so that my shoes don't end up completely mangling and permanently damaging my feet, because oy! They hurt so much, for hours and hours after I get home.
